Anyone know anywhere i can get a good laptop for cheap? seems a lot to ask these days, looking to spend about £600. cheers
Any number available for high three hundreds upwards.
Tesco, Dabs, Dell etc.
For £600 you should get a pretty good one.
You need to ask what you want it to do for you first then look for the specs to fit the bill.
This thread on Money Saving Expert continues to be added to and is worth a look as well

You should also at least consider a MacBook from Apple.
Absolutely stunning, I have one and for $40 more you can have Parallels Desktop to run Windows XP if you need to, or Apple`s Bootcamp for free at the moment, which does the same.
I run Parallels and to date it has worked very well indeed, though I must admit I mainly use Apple OSX.

MacBook comes in at £700 with the student discount, and would be a great laptop for any student - light, low maintenance and of course cool. And all the iLife apps that come with it (iPhoto, Garageband, iWeb and iMovie) would be an added bonus for anyone with a creative side. BUT bear in mind that the Intel Macs do not appear to come with Appleworks or any alternative basic word processor/spreadsheet apps so be prepared to add the costs of student versions of MS Office or Apples iWork whereas a PC with MS Works may do the job. That said, there are pretty good versions of Open Office around for the Mac too.
