PC Boot up problems, is NTL Broadband to blame??

Hi

I have been experiencing problems when booting up my PC. It freezes at start up, or within a few moments of switching it on.If it does start up ok, there`s a chance that it will freeze when i am 5 minutes into something, resulting in me having to switch off and reboot.

Now i have scanned the whole system, ran a registry check, spyware, ad-aware, ect ect and nothing is found. I have checked all the programs that run at start up, and they are all legit and correct.

I have given my PC to a work collegue, who ran it for hours with no problems at all. Sitched it on and off, no probs. I then gave it to my IT manager, who checked everything again, had it connected to the net at work (not network, just a direct line) and again no problems at all. :/
I get the PC home and bang, it freezes, locks up and takes ages to finally boot up correct and hassle free. >:(

What i have discovered is that when the NTL broadband is switched off before boot up, the PC starts fine, and i have a 100% success rate. I re-connect it once it has finished start up and it continues to run ok. However, when it is connected before i switch on, thats when i get loads of problems. :/

Is it possible that NTL is screwing my PC up? Is my router knacked or infected or like that which could be causing all these problems?

Any help would be appreciated

it sounds like you may have a virus of some kind in the modem/router drivers (each make has different drivers i suggest running some ativirus i recommmnd norton it will get rid of anything you may have if you anable spyware checking in norton it`ll da that as well

check the event viewer in admin tools in control panel and see if there is anything flagged in system or applications after a bad startup

is your NTL connection wireless? If so remove your wireless network card and I bet ya £100 quid the crashes stop. If this is the case the chipset on the wireless card is incompatible with your motherboard chipset.. :B

Hi

No its not wireless, its the standard grey modem box. Not been able to try any of the above yet due to work commitments, but i will give the above checks a try and see.
If it continues, i will contact NTL and get a replacement box.

Finally got round to speaking to NTL, and the chap on the tech helpline suggested i run the modem with USB instead of Ethernet. If that did not work, then he suggested uninstalling my ethernet card and reinstall.

Does anyone have any input to the suggestions made by NTL?
Regarding the ethernet card, is that not fixed in my towe?. does he mean physically remove it and replace? :/ :/

Well if your LAN is part of the motherboard then obviously you can`t physically detach it and reattach it (well not without breaking it anyway). Just try new drivers for the LAN.
