Video_TS files

:/
Does anyone know how to edit the files from a DVD? I have copied programmes on to a DVD using my Panasonic HDD/DVD recorder (DMR-EH50).

I have then copied the DVD disc onto my PC`s hard drive. When I use either Windows Movie maker or Win DVD creator 2, I am not able to import the various "BUP" and "VOB" files for editing.

Is there any other DVD software package that I shoud be using to import and edit?

Help please.

Oisin :)

Have a wee look at http://www.videohelp.com
You may find software in the "Tools" section that will allow you to edit the video files.

Choagy FFCUK the SPL :)

how much editing do you want to do? is it just some simple cutting out of adverts or other bits?

If so then download TMPGEnc DVD Author. As well as being a great DVD authoring program which allows you to re-author DVD`s already on your hard drive (or on disc, for that matter) which also includes editing out unwanted parts of the footage. It`s really simple when you`ve got the hang of things, and you can then go on to get quite creative (if you want) with menu construction. It also has a very hady in built burning program.

TMPGEnc DVD Author ISN`T free, but you`ll get a free for a month fully working program-that should be enough to prove it`s worth!

BTW-Those files you mention are not part of the actual footage, they are the files tha tell the player what to play and when to play it

Thanks for the tips (Emily Howard). I have had a look at the site for TMPGEnc DVD Author. I will try the free trial download later this week.

What I was looking for (and hope this software will do the trick) is to be able to import some of my favourite scenes footage from the DVD, into Windows Movie Maker, so that it will play in Windows Media Player or other movie players, such as Win DVD 6.

Thanks.

Do you have a drive on your PC that reads RAM Disc`s?

If you do you could try this. Its a bit of a bodge and doesn`t create `True` Mpeg files but it won`t cost you anything.

Edit on the HDD of your Panasonic to just the bits you want to keep then put it onto a DVD-Ram Disc (Please note that not all drives take the RAM Disks in Caddies.)

If you load your disc in your drive, select the Drive in My Computer and then go into File / Explore.
You should then have the root folder called "DVD_RTAV" in which you will find 3 files "VR_MOVIE.vro","VR_MANGR.ifo" and "VR_MOVIE.bup".

Copy file "VR_MOVIE.vro" to your PC at the same time RENAMING IT and changing the original `.vro` extension to `.mpg`

You should have now resaved your "VR_MOVIE.vro" as "NAMEOFFILM.mpg". This file should now play in Windows Media player 9.

Although this has the file extension .mpg and this is sufficent for Windows Media Player its not a true mpeg file and doesn`t appear to work in my DVD editing software.

I just read this somewhere else put I don`t have Ram so I don`t known how well it will work.

Good Luck
