Telewest 256 broadband is doubling in speed from next month

rockysafc (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 14th April 2005, 19:16

Just been on to them to downgrade my 1Mb connection to save a few pennies as I`m now unemployed again. Signed up for the £17.99 256Kb connection but was told that on the 4th May the speed is doubling for the same price. Not too bad considering that this was the original speed of my broadband connection which I paid £25 for. I know they are cheaper broadband out there but I`m stuck with Telewest for the time being.

are they upgrading all customers... or just those that threaten to leave?

Would be nice if they would give us the option of broadband even. Will there be any download limits?

Was informed that all current users of this service will be upgraded. I was on the 512Mb service originally and this was upgraded twice with no price increase. i would imagine they are doing this to keep up with the rest of the providers whose prices are becoming very competitive. If you don`t have this service from them you can get it for £14.99 a month.

From mid-May 2005, Telewest is doubling the speed of our
entry-level 256k service to a racy 512k.

If you decide to take our popular 256k service before mid-May,
you`ll initially start with the existing 256k speed (still 5 x faster
than dial-up). But shortly afterwards, you can look forward to
getting your service upgraded for free - to twice the speed and
nearly 10 x faster than a dial-up connection.

Remember, as with all Telewest broadband services, our
256k/512k service is totally unlimited - no caps, restrictions or
limits - so you`ll be able to surf away without any worries
about what you`re using.

They are not upgrading the other services. They were all upgraded in December, but 256kb wasn`t.

There will be no download caps and upstream speeds will remain the same.

However later in the year they will be trialing 10Mb BUT it`s not clear yet whether they`ll launch that as a commercial product.

Hmm...

Methinks I`ll hold off looking at alternative suppliers for a while then. I could go to BT and get ADSL, or I could go to Netvigator with an AUL of 10GB a month.
