Need Help with PC please!.....Bleeping noise, won`t boot.
Hello, my mate gave me his 3 year Tiny PC to sort out.......it was full of viruses and spyware and just wouldn,t run well at all.
I thought i would just reformat the drive but i have run into a problem.......before i decided to reformat, i used the repair function in XP to try and help, i used Fixboot and restarted the PC.
Now when i switch on, i get the usual bleep, then constant fast bleeping.
I have formatted the drive using my Xbox and installed it into my own PC and it works fine, but it will not boot as i can`t get past this bleeping noise.
Is it coming from the Motherboard?.....what can i do to sort this problem out.
Thanks for any help.
Cheers!

Its most probably that`s some thing`s not properly attached - RAM or harddisk. You said you removed the disk to format this - so make sure all the connections are ok. Have you done anything with the RAM ?

Thanks for the reply.
The beeping started before i removed the HDD, all i pressed was Fixboot in the repair and nothing else.

Take out the keyboard and reboot - just to see if it`s a stuck key....
you never know.... :)
If you get a single beep, the POST has usually completed OK. Can you get onto the BIOS setup screen? If so, have a look around and see if anything looks unusual. It`s worth making a note of all the settings and if all else fails, click on the set defaults setting & reboot.

I get 1 long bleep then 2 or 3 quick bleeps then it is fast and continuous.
My monitor is is not powering up, and it does this when only the power lead is plugged in, or with everything plugged in.

Most Tiny PC`s used MSi as motherboards, get the case of and you should be able to see which model it is. You can check online which BIOS you have and this will tell you what the beeps mean.
mmm chocolate

The POST codes (Beeps) are BIOS specific - note down the type of BIOS you have e.g. AMI, Phoenix,Award etc., and search the web for the code list e.g. AWARD BIOS POST CODES in google should do the trick for an Award BIOS.
Sounds like a hardware fault of some sort, but may be just a loose component.
Best of luck!

It is the Phoenix bios that is on the motherboard, it only went wrong when i used fixboot in the repair option of XP so i dont think it can be loose components.
I think i may need to replace the CMOS but i dont know how, my mate does not have the motherboard book.
I see writing on the motherboard saying CMOS clear and an arrow pointing towards a bit on the board but it does not look like you can plug anything into it.
I will have another mess about with it.
Thanks for the replies!

Try this , worked for me when I had a password locked Bios on a mates computer a while back and he had forgotten the password.
Some systems let you use CMOS clear jumpers to restore CMOS default settings; other systems alsoor insteadoffer a keystroke that you can press when you power on the system. For example, some older systems used the Insert key for this function. To my knowledge, however, Giga-Byte boards offer neither of these options, so you need to use the third method: removing the juice.
As you might know, an onboard system battery (on most modern motherboards, this battery is a round, thin, lithium-cell battery) backs up CMOS memory. To clear CMOS memory, disconnect the AC power from the system`s power supply, then disconnect the backup battery on the motherboard (you can usually just pop out the battery). Wait 10 to 15 minutes, then try booting the system again. The system should boot normally, with factory-default CMOS settings. If the system won`t boot, wait another 10 to 15 minutes and try again; keep repeating the process until the system boots. Some systems can take as long as 1 to 2 hours after you disconnect the battery to clear, but in most cases one or two cycles does the trick.
Or using the Cmos clear jumpers
This is a jumper on the motherboard that can be used to clear the CMOS memory; many newer motherboards have them. Follow the instructions for its use as described in the documentation; usually this means opening the PC, changing the jumper to a special setting, and then booting the PC. The CMOS memory will be cleared. Then you power the PC down and put the jumper back to its previous position.

Could it be that the running of fixboot has reset the BIOS back to factory settings?
If someone has added another graphics card and the bios is defaulting to onboard that may be the problem.
