Can I connect two PC`s via USB both using Windows XP so that I can transfer files from laptop to desktop and vice versa easily?

You can get a USB transfer lead to do this, that comes with dedicated software. I paid about £19 for mine some years back, I think Maplin or CPC do them for about £30 ex VAT.

Personally you would be better off with a PCMCIA card or USB Network adaptor (laptop)& for the PC a PCI network card & network the two together with a Network crossover lead.

You could of course buy 2 USB adapters if you are worried about installing the network card inside the PC.

Consulting - If your not part of the solution, there`s good money to be made by prolonging the problem.

Help, does this sound like the right cable for connecting two pcs together? My mum is getting a new one, so thought we could just connect them both together to transfer stuff across, is that the right cable?

Belkin - Crossover cable - RJ-45 (M) - RJ-45 (M) - 5 m - UTP ( CAT 5e )

If you want to connect to PCs together using Ethernet cards, then you need a CAT 5 Male to Male crossover cable, which is what you`ve listed there.

Avoiding the USB discussion myself, as it is not my area and tbh very slow in comparison to Ethernet which is just as cheap. ;)

Thankyou very much :) Got one on order cheap (I hope) in the Dell offer, but their descriptions are not in plain English :D Thought I`d better check before the offer ends.

I`ve got this cable, plugged it into both PCs, and run the networking wizard, but I think i`ve either done something wrong, or missed something. I have a network showing on both computers (Mshome), but when you look each only lists itself and not the other computer. Both computers are using ME.

*edit* sorted it now
