Backing up a Dvd............
I recently purchased a dvd re-writer and was trying to back up some of my dvd collection. Like alot of dvd`s most of mine are over 4.7gb in size but the film itself might be only say 4.4gb so i can rip the movie no problem but i still want to keep the menu and have no clue how to do this, is it possible HELP!!
RE: Backing up a Dvd............
Yup, get yourself onto Google and find yourself a copy of DVDShrink. Should take care of your problem. :D
Yeah - DVD Shrink is the best one to use imho too.
There`s plenty of threads on here asking similar questions, you should find plenty of advice already posted.
Yep - Another vote for DVD Shrink - magic utility
DVD Shrink is certainly worth it!

I also use DVD Decrypter to get around any drive region locking problems etc...

Yep! One of the best freeware apps evar! So good in fact, im surprised the coders havent been taken to court yet.........
DVD shrink lets you compress a dvd until it fits onto a dvd-r. Or lets you pick and choose what parts you want. I generally get rid of everything except the 5.1 soundtrack, possibly the directors commentary and the film so i dont have to compress the film down too much (as i never watch extras).
The DTS soundtrack alone is usually about 900mb, give ot take.

Ha from my experience when you have burnt your disc then you maybe lend it out to a friend you find they are not compatible with %75 of standalone players then you get known as a dick for not being able to backup a dvd right.. many dvd-r are s***e even if they are RITEK... maybe DVD+R are better but i have yet to experience such pleasures..
one big headache in my opinion..
RE: Backing up a Dvd............
I reckon that`s something to do with your burner then. I get a nigh-on perfect rate with Bulkpaq and RITEK DVDs on other peoples players. The few times people have had probs playing them is due to a dodgy disc or burn.
Might be worth investing in a new burner...
DVD - R are compatible with 98-99 % of all players now, as are DVD + R . Although, you will find that the cheaper the player, the more problems you`ll have with whether they`ll play or not. There is an answer though! Get the make of your freinds players, visit
this *clicky*
site and type it in.
You`ll then be able to see if it can play +R`s or -R`s
making DVD`s..even for me.. I thought was going to be a headache , but it is easier than you think with DVDshrink and anyDVD and DVD Decrypter

i actually do use DVD+R, but i pressed the wrong key ;) And, yes, i agree that DVD-Rs are cheaper seemingly for a reason. I wouldnt put compatability at 70% but, yeah, id say its lower than DVD+R.
