Just Installed DVD RW and I won`t work HELP!!!!!
Evening guys and gals,
I have just installed a DVD RW and it won`t work? It is a dvdrw drw-1s81, which is same as the liteon 8x DVD RW, but without the badge.
Once installed I get two new players, one says DVDRW DRW-1s81 the other says Generic DVD-ROM SCSI Cd Rom Device, neither of which pick up a DVD+RW when inserted!!
Anyone got any advise or wisdom they would like to share as to why this has happened, I have tried disabling, each devise in turn but this makes no difference, I have turned the PC of with the disc in the tray and it still won`t pick it up.
Thanks in advance
PS Happy Easter one and all
RE: Just Installed DVD RW and I won`t work HELP!!!!!
the lite-on dvd rw drives have a very high failure rate, so it may be worth testing it in another machine, if it`s the same i`d swap it for another drive. it`s a very weird problem you have tho, may not not be the drive thats causing it :/

At last someone who agrees with me about these drives in general (had 100% fail on a batch of these at work 5 years back).

"These drives in general"? People are talking about different products here. The consensus on the current Lite-On drives seems to be:
CD-RW and DVD-ROM: Very good
DVD-RW: Crap
You won`t find much disagreement there.
As for the older Lite-On drives (presumably one specific model of CD-ROM in your case) - they may well have been dire, but 5 years is a long time in computer hardware. What were AMD processors like 5 years ago? ;)

the early lite on cd drives where bobins, but they seem fine now (had a couple myself :) ) it`s the dvd rw units that have probs now :/

Quite good pound for pound as I remember :) I had a little K6-233 that did me nicely for a long time! Scary thing is that 2Ghz + now seems sluggish at times...

Based on my own experiences - I wont ever put a lite-on drive in any PC of mine or asked to purchase\install.
To each his own however. :)

PS Happy Easter one and allDid you resolve your problem?
It`s only a point of view...
RE: Just Installed DVD RW and I won`t work HELP!!!!!
Are the jumper settings the same at the back of your drive as the one you replaced? (I believe they should be set to `slave`.)
RE: Just Installed DVD RW and I won`t work HELP!!!!!
I had problems with mine till I used an older type ide cable and set the DVD RW to slave. Also once installed you must remember to right click the D: Drive (Where D: = your drive letter) and select use with DLA
