Page 1 of LG Electronics GSA-4081B DVD Writer

I am considering buying the above 8 speed dvd writer. It has got a good reviews in PC magazines. Apparently, only bad thing is software provided. I have Nero 5.5 already.

Any other reccommendations

Any advice on what media I should buy?

The Pioneer 106 / 107 drives are quite highly recommended by regulars on this site, equally the NEC drives (although I don`t think either of these write to dvdram as does the LG drive)
I`m happy with my Pioneer 106 (4x & DVD±R/RW)

I`ve got an LG writer and the burning s/w that came bundled was B`s Recorder GOLD5; I only use it to burn data to DVDs and it does the job with no problem. I sometimes use Nero and CloneCD too, depending on what I`ve got to burn. If you`re content with Nero then stick with it.

With regards to media, I only use Datawrite Classic DVD-R redtop. £7.99 for 25 from SVP

I`m worried I may bugger the drive! :(

updating the firmware is a piece o` cake on the LGs. I can burn 4x on +R discs, but only 2x on some -R, but this doesn`t bother me. Go here and follow the links to Product Support/Device Driver/CD-RW for the firmware.

Updated firmware ok :) - Still wont writer some media at 4x :(

Most likely it`s the media. I`ve only got 2x speed DVD-R at the moment so I can`t say for sure.
