Broadband question?

dusty321 (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 26th February 2004, 18:43

Ive had BB pegged for installation today, should have been done by 6.30pm this evening, question is when do you know when the line is ADSL enabled? At the minute in still able to dial up and make voice calls without a microfilter.

Dont understand? :/

That means nothing really. You only need the filter when using the phone and broadband - otherwise it`s a really bad line..
You`ll only really know when you connect and smile at how quickly your homepage (here ;-) ) loads..

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

Thats how I knew. Been on adsl (pipex) for few weeks now but I haven`t actually registered with them since connecting - apart from an add`l e-mail address (and some web space maybe?) am I losing out on something? I haven`t checked but I assume they are charging me for it.

Not that there`s much of a chance of my local clockwork and string exchange (& little interest), being enabled in the near future, but depending upon ISP, do you still get personal web space with BB ?

Would that I had. No, my local exchange (Hanmer) serves only the smaller villages in my neck of the woods. The trigger level before BT consider a build is 150 persons registering an interest. Not got quite half of that yet. So it`s a long uphill struggle. Still a chap in a neighbouring village has taken on job of "Broadband for Hanmer" campaign and I`m intending to do a leaflet drop in and around when I get some leaflets from this chap. It`s all the more frustrating because I see that BB is getting cheaper almost by the month. Oh well, one day I suppose. :( And here`s me an ex BT person who took early retirement.

There might be hope for you yet, the Ruabon exchange had a trigger level of 300 @ 68% BT decided to enable BB, why the early conversion I dont know but I aint complaining :D
