NEC 1300a.

Aren`t the NEC drives still picky with media without a firmware update? Pioneer 106 is under £84 inc. VAT from Blankdiscshop.

Since it`s the oem version of the pioneer, will I need anything else apart from the drive to install it.
It states:
This is the OEM version of the drive. It does not come in a retail box, and no software, cables, manual or installation screws are included.
Where can I get the cables, screws and software from?

It depends. If, like me, you`re replacing an existing CD burner then you shouldn`t need anything. The existing screws and cables should do the trick. Windows XP should recognise the drive without any help too (I`m not sure about earlier versions of Windows, though).
You`ll need to pick up some burning software though (e.g. Nero 6) if you don`t already have it.
Hopefully someone else will be able to help if your circumstances are different to mine.

I have an existing HP CD Writer.
Will the cables and screws already installed work?

I`m not too familiar with HP kit, but it`s highly unlikely that your existing cables & screws etc. won`t work - if that makes sense.
I`d double check with someone with a more definite idea, though.
