New PC Quote - how competitive is it?

peaceful_warrior (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Friday, 7th November 2003, 12:19

Recieved the following quote for a new PC, and would like your views on how competitive it is. The PC will mostly be used for Photo Editing, but I`d like it to be able to run the odd game, etc.:

KT400 FSB Motherboard with
- Athlon Barton compatible
- 6 USB 2.0 ports (4 rear, 2 front)
- On board Sound
- On board 10/100 LAN connection
- AGP 8x slot
- Max 2Gb Memory

AMD Athlon 2600+ Barton with 3 year warranty
512Mb 333Mhz Crucial Memory
80Gb 7200rpm Hard Drive
GeForce FX 5200 64Mb Graphics Card with TV out
CD/RW 52x32x52 with Nero Burning Software
DVD Rom 16x48 with DVD playback software
Stylish Case with case fan and Front USB, Firewire and Headphone connectors (behind a flap)

All with 1 year warranty (except AMD Processor - 3 year warranty)

(I will supply the o/s, Keyboard, Monitor, Speakers etc)

£475

Where`s that quote from? I`ve just paid £490 for something very similar but without the TV out and Firewire. Oooops - just noticed no OS in quote; mine includes XP Home.

Oh well, I haven`t done too badly. Peaceful warrior`s quote doesn`t look quite so good, though I still reckon that`s not a bad price.

I got mine from here: http://www.europc.co.uk/cgi-bin/web.storefront/3fa3b0060012a986273fd43a3b3f0656/Product/View/76125
