How do you know the hard drive is damaged?
Have you tried System Restore if on Win XP to see if a previous dates settings are okay.
It could be loss of drivers.
Try repairing Win XP or whatever OS it is.
What virus was it?
Try Sys Restore or fresh install.
Im sure theres probably other things you can do without doing these but its better coming from the Expert PC user.
Im sure theres one on here somewhere.
Good luck.

Shouldnt be a problem. I had an IBM drive that I bought from Dabs. About 2 years and 11months into the warranty it developed a problem and they told me to return it under warranty.

I may be wrong but isn`t the hard drive supposed to be the master and anything else should be set to slave?

no you can set a second hdrive to be a slave after master hd hence the jumper setting that all hrives have !

IBM hard drives have a bit of a reputation for dying, something I have first hand experience of unfortunately.
