IE6 not running properly after installing XP

Wedge G (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 1st June 2003, 19:41

Hi guys,

Have recently installed XP (so much better than ME that I was running), but am now having problems with IE6.

1) Pop-ups come up empty. For instance, when I try to buy a dvd from cd-wow, a pop-up usually comes up to ask you to confirm that your player can play that region and would you like to add to the cart. Well all i get is a blank white box, with no description in the title bar

2) Browser not java enabled

I think I have sorted the second one thanks to another thread on here (in the middle of downloading from Sun), but anyone know how i can sort problem 1?

Thanks in advance

Do you have XP`s inbuilt firewall enabled? It might be that?

Don`t think so. I do have zonealarm running but have got it all ticked and it passes the lock. Have tried running it without zonealarm locked but no difference.

How do i check if the XP firewall is running? (meant to say running XP Professional if that makes a difference)

Control Panel
Internet Options
Connections
Settings
Properties
Advanced

Might be an easier way to find it, but I don`t know it.

1) Goto run and type: regsvr32 urlmon.dll
that should fix the popups, if it doesn`t then you also need to do the same for the following:
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll

Please re-register the following files:
regsvr32 msscript.ocx
regsvr32 dispex.dll
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
regsvr32 scrrun.dll

1. Click "Start," and then click "Run."
2. Type regsvr32 msscript.ocx in the "Open" box and click "OK."
3. Repeat for dispex.dll,vbscript.dll, and scrrun.dll.

Next, make sure file (open) type .JS is properly associated:
1. In Control Panel, click "Folder Options," and then click "File Types."
2. Locate the .JS extension and click "Advanced."
3. Make sure the "Application to perform action" field contains: C:WINDOWSSystem32WScript.exe "%1" %* This is for a Windows XP computer. For Windows 2000 substitute the C:WINDOWS with C:Winnt. For Windows 98 and Windows Millenium Edition substitute this: C:WINDOWSSystem for C:Windowssystem32.
