Encore 450 - Playback troubles

Solabar (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 27th November 2000, 09:29

Anyone else had problems with Stuttering or Freezing Playback or the player not loading discs, "No Disc" Message after spinning up 4 or so times. Curiously if you change regions sometimes the disc will work.

I know that the DVD`s are not faulty as they work fine in another player.

Any Ideas???

Ive had a few stuttering / pausing moments. Was watching a movie last night and it was stuttering. Took the disc out, wiped it and put it back in. It played absolutely fine for the rest of the disc.

This was on a brand new disc that Id literally just undone the packaging on ! Try wiping your discs and see if that helps with your problem.

Thanks for the suggestion but I tried that with no real effect.

The curious thing is that it stutters in the same places each time, which is what led m to believe the discs were at fault. But trying them on another player they work.

Stumped again

Just spoke to a very nice chap at Encore who was quite as bemused about the whole thing as I was. With a bit more explanation of the problem he decided that it was down to something dodgy with the unit and it`ll be replaced.

Rayyyy for nice customer services.

Only problem is I have to ship back to Amazon now. *sigh* Trust me to buy from alternate vendors.

I`ve said it all along - that`s what you want from a customer services. For anyone else with issues ring the Technical Support guys on 01895 450450 - excellent job!

I know a certain company rhyming with Span that could learn a thing or two about this level of service, he said bitchily...

Funnily enough I have also had this problem. The playback froze on my Tarzan disc (r2) and just sat there. I stopped it and started it again and it froze in the same place. I didn`t think it was a layer change because it wouldn`t have stopped for so long. It did eventually start again though.

I phoned Technical support about a different problem - haven`t mentioned this one to them yet - and they said that there was a firmware upgrade in the offing. Not sure when it will be out but they mentioned the "Sleepy Hollow" DVD.

I finally got my 450 today! I think it does skip a tiny bit (possibly just for a couple of seconds after I un-pause it?) but not frequent enough or noticeable enough to worry me. Overall I am more than impressed with the machine, it`s most excellent and not *too* ugly.

I have some trouble with Sixth Sense. Half the time the machine doesn`t want to recognise the disc and when it did the playback was slow and jerky. It also made a horrible noise in the player. Took it back and got another copy.

It`s a lot better, plays with no jerking, but the disc doesn`t always get recognised.

Initially had problems playing Matrix and Magnolia.
Encore changed the unit - excellent cust service.

However new machine does `pause` as it is playing (on this occasion Baby Geniuses)
The dark colours are still grainy on RGB, so I am using on S-video, and it is better.

Also the front circular control is loose, can`t remember if it was on the original, can anyone confirm ?

The facia on this player is never going to win any awards. I tend to avoid using the circular control, but it is a little wobbly.

I`ve finally connected my player via RGB (only just found out my rented Sanyo widescreen telly does it - oh ye of little faith) and have to say the picture is better than S-VID. I also bought a proper SCART lead, and not just a standard £4 from Argos job which has made all the difference. Try http://www.beyondhifi.com for a 1.5m SCART for £12 inc. P + P. They delivered mine in three days, thru the post too.
