Only about 80+ models that fit your price criteria !
What exactly do you need ?
e.g. MP3 playback, CD-R/RW compatibility, S/VCD compatibility, multiregion, VCR friendly, on board decoding, lots of shiny lights, attached coffee machine ?
Seriously, there are loads of good bargains to be had, but we need a bit more to go on, please !

Not being particularly "With It" when it comes to tech specs etc, I can only go by my personal experience and recommend the Haus H615L-S from www.jungle.com. It costs app. £135 including P&P . Obviously it is not a well known brand like JVC Sony etc. but it has both 5.1 and DTS decoders built in . It also recognises CD / CDRW / VCD/ SVCD / MP3 / DVD / CD as well and according to the manual can handle both PAL and NTSC.
PS This DVD is manufactured by Zenix if that is any help and is listed as the Z 615L-S and their address is www.zenix-electronics.com

The `Mico` from Sainsburys is the one to go for. I have had the Toshiba 210...Pioneer 444..Wharfdale...Schneider...to name a few within the last 6 months. The ONLY one that played all DVDs..SVCDs...& VCDs with no lip sink problems & would fast forward on SVCDs is the Mico. It is region free, & partly made with Panasonic parts. It was highly reviewed in `What Video & TV`. In fact they said at a higher price they would still have given it a best buy. The last price I saw was £89-00. It is far better than all the above makes.

i have rang my local sainsburys up and they have never heard of this dvd player.....................i live in the derbyshire area.
RE: anyone know of any good/bargain dvd players???????????????
It`s full name is..Mico Clasica 20. I forgot that it is available in the larger Sainsburys stores only. I had to do a 60 mile round trip for mine ..worth every mile...but I would think Sainsburys could put this in most stores, they seem to put a Crown (I believe) into most stores, but the Crown is not on a par with the MICO. I know a lot of people on this site recommend the Dansai from Tesco, but even then I see people having some problems with them & they haven`t had a review in any magazine that I know. I went through a lot of players because some would do this & some would do that, the Pioneer is as smart a player you could want, BUT only the Mico did the lot perfectly.

Paull, have you tried any DVDR media on it? i`m trying to find a 100% compatible DVDR media. I`ve gone through 3 different types of media so far and they all skip :(

I haven`t but in the review on page 63 of What Video & TV April 2002. They said "the Mico is compatable with DVD+RWs & DVD-Rs, all of our recordings made with the Philips & Panasonic DVD recorders were handled without any problems".
RE: anyone know of any good/bargain dvd players???????????????
I bought a MiCO Clasica 20 last week from Sainsbury`s in Reading. It is a great DVD player and I can confirm that it plays DVD-R and DVD-RW without any problems.
The only downside to this player is that the option to disable macrovision has been removed with the latest firmware ver1.01. Does anybody know a work round to this; ie a firmware upgrade or another hidden menu?
