Cyber Home ADL228 or ADL528

JAFIX (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 14th April 2002, 10:53

Hi all,
Richer Sounds is selling Cyber Home ADL228 for £79.95 and ADL528 for £99.95. Does anybody know the main diffirences between the two. I thought of going for the ADL228 as I read in the reviews here that the Macrovision can be disabled in the ADL528. Any idea please.

Thanks

Jaf

I believe the firmware can be altered on these players.

I belive the initial number refers to the number of outputs on the back.

Ie 228 has stereo out and 528 5.1 output

otherwise i think they are the same machine

Thanks for the info, I have checked the web site and I might go to a local shop and see the player. The only problem is the colour as evrything I have is black, but I guess I have to put up with something diffirent.

Any idea of a similar set but in black.

Thanks

Jaf

Hello,
At the end I went to Power House and bought the Deccavision 2110. I think I will putup with the colour. The price in the shop is £109.99 and bought extra 2 year direct swap waranty for £30 as the reliability on these machines are questionable.
I had no DVD at all so I hired Sawrd Fish. I must admit I was not intersted in the film as much as the output of the player. The picture is not that bad and I was not empressed with the sound at all. The player has a digital and coaxial output but I have no means of decoding the signal ( for the time being). The functionality is excelent on the remote control but found it a bit directional. By the way, there is no ping sound on the tray open and close.
I have tried DVD, MP3, CD, CDR, CDRW and MPEG files so far. All worked well. I have no means of testing the region combatibility as I had no DVDs for that.
I have tried to pass the signal through my VCR but had no luck, any idea ?
I tried both the scart lead and the phono option for video but seen no diffirence with this film at least.

Will update you more as I progress.

Jaf

I have a silver 528 but you can get it in black. Unfortunately you can`t disable macrovision. I had to buy a macromaster.

Macmaster: http://www.sonel.com - can also buy from places like http://www.dvdchips.co.uk - £30.
It`s basically a whizzy scart lead (with power supply) that removes the macrovision signal from the DVD`s output, so you can copy to VHS (which, of course, infringes copyright).
