Plus it has 2 mic inputs on the front and an automatic karoke switcher function, ie, plug in the mics, it thinks "aha, karaoke" and does the appropriate business.

I think you need Vcd Karaoke discs (Picture and words at bottom of screen) Mr Bee!
£20 from sessionmusic.co.uk (do search for Vcd)

Thanks Biteman You are right, I have ££££s worth of CDGs and I have a player too (that can handle VCDs and CDGs) I would like a backup player that can play these discs and play DVDs too. I know it is asking for the moon but there again why not?

I believe that there is another format for Karaoke that is DVD based (holds many more songs but costs more for each disc) So maybe there is a player that can handle both.

Theres DVD Karaoke which is, to all intents and purposes, a DVD with music on - pretty much all players can use these. Depending on the disc you may or may not get the text on screen as the song plays. Prices can be as low as £3 - 4 for these (Check out ezydvd.com.au for some examples)

The CD+G format only seems to be supported by a few, not really released in this country, far eastern players. Check out http://www.karaokemaniac.com/pioneerkaraokeplayers.htm for a few examples. Along with players that do both formats :-)

IIRC then the Sega Saturn can do CD+G may be worth trying to pick one of these up (They seem to be about £20 second hand) for the CD+G capability and then picking up a cheap DVD player.
