speakers speakers

i`m looking at getting some speakers for my home cinema as i have a small room i`m considering the wharfedale diamond 8.1 and the diamond centre. would it ruin my system if i went for the mission 7mds instead of having to mount another pair of diamond 8.1`s on the wall?

Not at all - you are looking to get a centre speaker too, I take it ?

I run the m7ds with 8.3s and they combine very well indeed.

thanks for the advice. i am getting the diamond 8 centre speaker i`d take that you have it as you have the diamond 8.3`s. how does it perform?

p.s with the m7ds is it essential to sit directly in between them being they are dipoles?, because of my room layout i would be sitting directly under the left rear.

cheers for your help

The Diamond centre is my favourite of all the new speakers I bought over Christmas - the dialogue is very crisp, and the effects pan across the front soundstage from 8.3 to 8c to 8.3 in a nice sweeping movement - great speakers.

The ideal positioning for the m7ds is actually the along the side wall. As long as you set them to "Small" in your AV amp set up, the sound shouldn`t be too localised. You may need to adjust the volume level (there`s usually a setting on your amp) for your left rear a little - personally, I`d move the sofa ! Mind you, I`m lucky in having a reasonably shaped room :-)

Hope this helps.

You may want to look into the Mission 77ds too. They`re only £99 from Richer Sounds at the moment. I`ve looked around the forums and people seem to think that these are better than the m7ds. It`s all subjective though.

does anyone know the difference between the m7ds and the m77ds?
the spec of them both seems the same

Westy (our resident AV guru) reckons the 7s are better than the 77s. I can`t possibly comment, never having heard the latter, but Westy knows his onions, and I trust what he says implicitly (apart from the story about naming his son Biscuit, of course...)
