LG FDV25 Noisy Fan

NA ELLIOTT (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Monday, 18th February 2002, 08:45

Any other owners of the LG FDV25 noticed a noisy "cooling" fan ??
From out of the box there was no fan noise, but after 10-15mins the Fan starts working and is loud enough to be noticed during quieter audio. Now as soon as I power up, on comes the fan. The system is well ventilated, sitting on top of a display unit.

Yes, I`ve got exactly the same problem. The fan starts noisy, gets quieter as time goes on, but is still noticeable in quiet bits.

Has anyone any ideas for a solution. I guess disconnecting the fan would put the components in ganger of overheating, and would in any case invalidate the guarantee. Other than that I am willing to open up the case.

At the moment, I am considering having a glass-fronted cabinet, just like I used to have in my old big component days.

Question to you owners, apart from the fan noise what do you think of this machine?

Are the speakers/volume up to much?

What outputs/inputs does it have - scart?

Thanks - I`m thinking of buying one.

Bought this last week and I was initially impressed (It`s my first DVD player). However, over the weekend the fan started really bugging me. I was watching TV with the LG unit on and the sound through it`s Aux channel. It was like water torture. In the end I could hear nothing but the overpowering fan.

Eventually my wife and I decided that it had to go back to the shop. I went round to Comet at lunchtime and the blooming thing is £50 cheaper than I paid last week.

So I thought about it again and I`ve decided it has to go back. I`ll be packing it up tonight

Pity because It`s a good idea to have the whole system in such a wee box and at a price I could afford.

I`m considering the Goodmans DVD3500PK as a replacement.

I like things that are cheap as I can never afford to keep up with having the best of everything.

I really liked the LGFDV25, it looked and sounded good, picture quality was superb and the mini speakers delivered excellant sound reproduction. There are the Connections for the five surround speakers and a sub-woofer (not included), Aux (Phono) and a single Phono for video output to your tele. The package included a phono - scart adapter. No scart on the back of the LGFDV25. Apart from the noisy fan (which does become very intrusive), the other problem for me was that the Aux input does not support ANY surround sound, so connecting a Nicam Pro-Logic VCR to the aux will not achieve surround sound, only stereo. Hope this helps.
