Portable Problems

I think i know what the answer will be but it doesnt hurt to ask right??

Anyhow i have a portable dvd player, nowt special just something i bought a few years back but havent used in ages. About to go on holiday next week (just in time for the rain) and thought id drag it out for my 3 year old to use on the drive, the problem is i think the battery is screwed.

Ive plugged it in to charge and the charging light has lit up, it has been like this for two days though and when you connect it to the back of the player nothing happens. I know the player itself works as i can use it off the mains. Does this mean the battery is sooooo old and hasnt been used for so long that it is no good anymore? If so any idea where i can pick up a cheap replacement, its a whopping great black thing that attaches to the back of the player and plugs into the ac port on the side.

It matters not what happens in life, ive met the Mighty Bruce and my life is complete.
