Recommend me a small multi-region DVD player
Title says it all really...
Looking for a small (not portable) DVD player suitable for bedroom shelf, must be multi-region with SCART output. Not looking to spend too much.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

RE: Recommend me a small multi-region DVD player
Hi James
Not got one of these but, after a bit of Googling...
http://direct.asda.com/Smart-Price-DVD-Player/000570862,default,pd.html
And the remote hack is apparently as follows but you don`t get any indication n screen that anything has happened. Have an R1 dvd ready to try.
Quote:
to change the current region setting on this player
1. Press the Standby button on your remote control to place the unit into Standby
2. Press the Standby button on your remote control to turn on the unit
3. Press the Open/Close button on your remote control to open the drive tray
4. Press the Clear button on your remote control
5. Press the 1 button on your remote control
6. Press the 3 button on your remote control
7. Press the 6 button on your remote control
8. Press the 9 button on your remote control
9. Press the 0 button on your remote control
10. Press the Open/Close button on your remote control to close the drive tray
11. Press the Standby button on your remote control to place the unit into Standby
12. Press the Standby button on your remote control to turn on the unit
Be a good chap and post your thoughts and if it works out.
It would be good to know if it does anything else such as play divx discs, or make toast ;)
Asda are pretty good and may accept a return if you don`t like it.

RE: Recommend me a small multi-region DVD player
Thanks.
(Been offline for a couple of days, moving house).
Will give it a go and report back.
RE: Recommend me a small multi-region DVD player
James, was it any good?
RE: Recommend me a small multi-region DVD player
Sorry, haven`t even purchased it yet. Absolutely crazy at work at the moment, deadlines and more deadlines... hopefully get is sorted in next few days.
RE: Recommend me a small multi-region DVD player
Got one. And for the money its perfectly ok, except so far it refuses to accept the region hack.
It`s happy with region 2 DVD, and some odd other discs I threw at it (DVD-R, DVD+RW, CD).
The disc loader mechanism is a bit noisy, as is the unit when first reading the disc. But once underway it seemed fine. All very basic, but for a basic bedroom player its fine (except the region hack problem).
I`ll have more time to play with it tomorrow and see if it can be persuaded...
RE: Recommend me a small multi-region DVD player
Its going back to Asda, doesn`t want to go `multi-region` with any of the known codes. Not gonna wait and see if anyone finds a working one...
RE: Recommend me a small multi-region DVD player
It might be worth popping into Richer Sounds if you have one near you, most if no tall of their DVD players are/can be made multi region. From their website it doesn`t look like they have the sort of thing you`r eafter, but they may have different machines in store.
RE: Recommend me a small multi-region DVD player
Tried my local Richer Sounds, the cheapest multi-region DVD player they had in was a Sony at £50.
So I`ve gone for the middle road and picked up a Philips DVP3120 from Asda for £33. Nice and simple remote region hack that seems to have worked fine. So far its played everything. Not as small as the Tesco Smart one, but good enough...
RE: Recommend me a small multi-region DVD player
ive just bought a neat dvd player from asda it only cost £17 but is NOT region free
