There`s loads of stuff about this set on the internet.
Try dropping the largely irrelevant R2FXXU and just do a search for LE40A786 instead.

I`ve been looking at this set, but it always comes second to the Sony KDL40W4500 in any test I`ve read (and I read plenty).
So I`m going for the Sony, some point soon.

Thanks for that Bofer, had a look at your option, and it looks very nice but I think that the 2,000,000 to 1 does it for me.

Dynamic contrast ratio (2,000,000:1 in this case) is a huge marketing gimmick. There is no industry standard by which to measure it. A bit like the response times of LCD screens.
The latest Samsung range naming convention is very confusing. The 7 series (the one you have mentioned) is available in two quite different sets. The 75X and 78X. The 78X range (the one you are looking at) is a newer kind of LCD that has LED backlighting. This, in theory, can give higher dynamic contrast ratios because the backlight isn`t one `light` as such - it is many many lights that can be switched on and off independently to give even darker blacks in selected parts of the screen. Sounds great in theory but this technology is early in its development. There are issues where a part of the scene covered by one `lightl` is light and dark - should the backlight be on or off. If it`s on then you can get issues if the next one is off. It may be the future who knows?....
The W4500 mentioned earlier is a fantastic set. But there have been (exaggerated??) reports of clouding on them and just swayed me from getting one. I bought the Samsung LE40A756 last week. This doesn`t have LED backlighting but does have multimedia/DLNA functionality. It can play avi file, mpg`s, pictures etc. from a usb stick (no more converting..) or from a network connection. It is the best picture I have even seen on a flat screen. It really is stunning. Only problem was I had to buy it from Currys - a store I hate. I had been watching its price closely and was waiting for it to drop a little. It was £1099 for ages. Then the weekend before last they did an offer for the TV and a Blu-Ray player for £799!! :o I can get 10% gift vouchers through work which made it £720 for a 40" 7 series LCD with a Blu-ray player. When I went to pick it up the player was not in (I had been told there would be a delay on that due to the number they were shifting) but said I was expecting the player when I picked up the TV. Manager went into the store and picked me up a superb player (selling for £299!) (profile 2 out of the box, analogue 7.1 outputs etc..) and said I could have that......
TV is £999 now.
Am buying the 46" 8 series in a week or so too. :)
Ste
We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

The clouding reports worried me, until I found out it only happens on some sets at high backlight settings.
I always have my backlight setting as low as I can get away with.
I just can`t go buying anything else, knowing that every test you read says the W4500 is better.
It would just nag away at me.
However, if another 40" comes along that beats the W4500 in the meantime, I`ll go with that.
I have no loyalty to any manufacturer, I just buy what gets the most awards.
