Panasonic dmr-ex85 - replacing HDD

OX-Steve (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Monday, 14th April 2008, 11:57

Afternoon all,

I`ve got a Panasonic DMR-EX85 HDD/DVD recorder and the disk`s failed. I`ve replaced the disk fine but it`s still throwing an error. Looking online hints that the firmware may be stored on the disk rather than in flash, and that it needs to be booted from a firmware disk to reinitialize the new HDD.

Has anyone else replaced a drive in one of these, and is this correct? I don`t suppose anyone happens to have a firmware disk? Panasonic sadly don`t make it available on the website..

Cheers,
Steve.

I`ve never known anybody successfully replace/upgrade a Panny HDD. :(
You do need the files that a Panny service/repair agent has and I`ve never seen them available..
