Can you recommend a home-cinema system??

norman stone (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 18th December 2001, 21:34

I have a Toshiba sd110 and JVC widescreen tv.

Can someone recommend a good home-cinema system to go with these.

These are the criteria:

It must look nice (silver)
Sub-woofer not too large as my lounge is only small
Maximum price of £300
...and a "decent" brand

Cheers!

Shame about the silver bit, otherwise the Yamaha VS10 might fit the bill. The amp/decoder is small, though, so maybe you could tuck it away a bit?
Silver Videologic DTS might be out of your range - the black one can be had apparently for £250 from Comet or Currys at the moment. The non-DTS version ("Digitheatre") in silver is available from Dabs for £210.

I know its a bit more than you were looking to pay, but quins have the new pioneer vsx-c300s RDS plus S-V50-QL speakers and sub for 399.99.
Mine is waiting to be delivered and believe me it sounds awesome!
It`s also silver!
Alas no website though.
But you can check out the pioneer website-www.pioneer.co.uk!

Visit the Richersounds web site and look at the `Yamaha AVS-70` system, it does everything you want and at the moment is only £200. I can personely recomend this system as myself my uncle and my sister have all purchased it.

Tell you what, I heard the Bush PRO300 system last night and it blew me away. Only £99 from Tesco as well !
It`s attactively styled as well with nice wood finished speakers. I know it`s Bush, and I`d usually avoid them as well, but for £100 it`s amazing.
If I didn`t have such an unusually shaped room I`d get one today.

But your DVD needs an on board decoder - not sure if the Tosh has that - if it has, you`ll have 6 phono outputs, for front left & right, centre, rear left & right plus subwoofer. These would plug into the Bush sub thing, which will then do the amplification and noisy bit! Other ones like this are the Novatech ones (http:///www.novatech.co.uk).

The Yam VS-10 is available in 2 colours one of them being silver. I am no expert but after a lot of research I bought one and it is fantastic....for the money I guess. It`s in the kids TV room and that is now where I watch all of my programmes. When I invest in one for the main room it could well be another Yamaha and I would be happy.

I have looked at the RicherSounds web-site for the `Yamaha AVS-70` system.

How do I get further details of the product?
