Sheldon, what outputs does the cable box have?
Assuming it has a SCART output, that should be connected to the Panny`s input, with a second SCART lead from the Panny to the TV.
With everything switched on, select the SCART input with the DVD remote to bring the cable picture up onscreen to record from.

Hi Sue
Well I have tried your option and it still will not bring the telewest channels up. On the back of the telewest box I have 2 scarts one for the tv, one for the vcr, one hdmi. onthe panasonic i have 1 scart av1 (tv) and 1 scart av2 (ext), and a hdmi. The panasonic recorder has freeview, and also the tv i have has it built as well, when i select av1 on the dvd recorder it gives me a television picture, not the cable picture, I have looked at the manual and they only say about satalitte connections not telewest. all i am trying to do is transfer what i have on the telewest hard drive to the hard drive of the panasonic, i thought this would be a simple case of plugging it in and selected the record functions available, and that was it. but no. I hope you can advise further.

As far as instructions are concerned, Satellite is the same as cable.
When you select av1 on the recorder you should see the TV. - that`s what you connected it to.
What do you see when you select av2 on the dvd recorder - with the cable box switched on?

OK, that makes it clearer.
Assuming your TV has 2 HDMI inputs, then both the Cable box and the Panny need to connect to those - otherwise if it only has one input, you`ll need to switch between them or buy a multi-HDMI adaptor. (Same principle as a SCART adaptor but much more expensive of course)
Make sure you have the RF cable from the aerial going through the Panny to the TV.
Take a SCART lead from the TV SCART socket on the cable box to the Panny`s Ext SCART input, and another from the Panny`s TV SCART output to the TV. (This second one is not essential if you only intend to view the Panny through the HDMI connection)
Make sure you have the Panny onscreen on the TV first of all, then go through the Panny`s inputs until you see the cable picture. It should be on the SCART input as long as you have plugged it into the Ext SCART socket at the rear of the Panny.
Everything should be ok. You probably had the TV plugged into the Ext SCART socket on the Panny or something. You`ll soon get past it, don`t worry!
RE: PANASONIC DMREX77EB Connecting to telewest hd box
Hello sue
Well the saga continues tried the option you gave me, but all I get on the tv screen is a very poor analouge tv signal, the cable box is no where to be seen. Do you think it makes any difference that there is a freeview tuner in the tv as well as the panny, it seems that there both running ok, showing different programmes, butI cannot get rid of the third signal from analogue. do i need to switch something off on the cable box or the panny or the tv so this signal vanishes, and the cable overides this. I have tried your option step by step and various other ways but still no luck, can you help, before i chuck this recorder through the window, i thought it would be so simple to set up, but this is not the case.
RE: PANASONIC DMREX77EB Connecting to telewest hd box
The telewest TVdrive box (or Virginmedia V+ box) only outputs on scart (if you are using it on HDMI normally) when you select "copy to dvd" option on the cable menu. At all other times it only sticks the signal to the HDMI port. Hope this helps.
RE: PANASONIC DMREX77EB Connecting to telewest hd box
That`s useful to know. What are you connecting to the TV via HDMI? And have you set it all up in the menus to correspond with that?
Don`t blame Panasonic for this - it`s not their fault.
We are talking about using various connections - RF, SCART and HDMI, and we can`t see exactly what you have connected where at the moment.
Maybe take HDMI out of the equation until you have sussed things out, then try with that afterwards.
RE: PANASONIC DMREX77EB Connecting to telewest hd box
If you change it to output to scart in the menu ( either RGB or Composite is selectable) you are outputing all the time as selected BUT you dont have access to all that fabulous HD content. The difference between the normal cable and channel 108 HD is immense, case in point - Mountain with Gryff Rhys Jones on standard is great but in HD is absolutely jaw dropping. Makes me all Sir Walter Scott - ish..........

RE: PANASONIC DMREX77EB Connecting to telewest hd box
Hi Sue
I think with a little jigging about that i have cracked it, I am currently recording from the virgin hd to the panny hard drive, the only slight problem I am getting, is whilst this is taping I cannot acces the freeview thru the panny, and also i am wondering is it possible to record on a dvd a programme from the pannys freeview tuner, whilst the panny is recording on the hard drive something from cable. do i need to set up a different series of connections to get this ?
once again many thanks
