A Sony, Pioneer or Tosh?

Stig The Mighty (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 30th October 2000, 20:48

I`ve got just over £200 to throw at a DVD player and have whittled the field down to one of either the Sony DVPS 335, the Pioneer DV 525 or the Toshiba SD100E. I`m not overly fussed about multi-region (even though the Pioneer & Tosh both are). I just want the best picture (and good sound) from this selection. Any help gratefully read. Ta.

PS sorry I`ve left out the Hitachi 505.

At the risk of being predictable (but it`s nice to reply before any of the regulars) - Pioneer have got a very good reputation - the only normal problem is that it has to be hardware hacked to be multi region - but it sounds like yours would come pre-chipped.

The Hitachi syndicate will forgive you as you only have around £200 to spend and the quality 505 costs£300.now thats out the way i can second the opinion on the pioneer 525 you can get it multi reigon and macro disabled to and this machine does not seem to have a problem with rce discs as you can normaly set the reigon your self but you cant on the tosh models although there is a shaun work around but manualy selecting the reigon as on the pioneer must be better as the work around for tosh models does not allow you to view the disc menu (so i belive).

also i only hear good things about sony but getting one for £200??????
that sounds cheap.
