Advice Req. Photo Printers

mildman2 (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 20th June 2007, 10:09

Hello, I hope someone can advise.

Is it worth getting a photo printer, and if so, which type? As I see it I have three main options I think.
1) A normal printer that can print photos too and take e.g 6x4 special paper if required.
2) A dedicated photo printer which only does photos in either 7x5 or 6x4.
3) Don`t get anything and use asda or tesco for my hard copy prints.

..or or do I have any other options that I am not aware of?

Thanks for any help.

Neil.

I personally would go for option 3. In the long run it tends to be the most cost effective way of getting your photos printed (especially if you take advantage of all the 5p per photo offers)...its only if you want to print off the "reader`s wives" style of photo that you should consider your own printer :D

Well, yes, but I still haven`t mastered the art of the black bar across the eyes or the blurring of the face with Photoshop for those classy "bonnet of the Ford Cortina" shots! :D

Option 3 is the best way to go for most people for cost and convenience but if you like to tinker a bit then get a Canon pixma 6000. you can print just about any size you want from wallet all the way uo to 8x11

good luck

I have an Epson PictureMate 240 - it`s been useful and convieient. The missus likes making cards, so she uses it for printing pictures of flowers or shells and other arty stuff.

It is more expensive per print than 5p per photo though.

Option 3, however I do have this

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-SELPHY-CP720-Portable-Printer/dp/B000IKVOEI/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/203-3015595-9912736?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1182494897&sr=8-2&tag=myrev09-21

about 20 notes for 108 print pack, as the nearest photo stores are about 20 mins away, its the best option for me. They are brilliant quality, only thing is they have postcard print on the back, slight niggle.

Thanks for your help men!
Luckily, there`s a posting in the bargain buckets forum for a cheapo Canon printer so I`ve reserved one at Argos.

Thanks again,

Neil.

Can anyone help me out?

I am after a printer that will print 6x4 or 7x5 prints.
It must have a screen so you can see what you are printing.
It needs to be a stand alone printer as its for someone without a PC.
It will also need to be able to read/acquire pictures from a card reader.

Thanks in advance

The Jackal
