Page 1 of SKY+ fan noise?
Hardware Forum
The fan (i think) in my Sky+ box used to come on every hour or so for about 20 mins. Just replaced the hard drive and now it is always on, or at least there is always a noise which sounds like a fan.
Is this normal for the fan to run constant, and why would it change after putting in a new hard drive? I find it annoying when watching TV at night when the volume is not high.
Anyone else have this problem? :)
When I first got my Sky + box a few years a go, I noticed the fan was always on... but after I had switched it off at the mains and unplugged it for a few minutes (for another problem), the fan didn`t come back on straight away - and now just comes on as normal/intermittidly... might be worth a go? :)
I switch it off at night now as its too loud, have not unplugged it though.......shall try it and see.......
Cheers for the idea :)
Didnt change anything :(
Anyone got any other ideas? :)
you could try resetting it i forced it to update which seems to fix most things
unplug hold down the backup key on front of box not remote
while plugging back in still hold the backup key till the front lights cum on
the screen should read downloading please leave for 10 mins or sumthing similar
should sort it
if not try reset in the installers menu 4 0 select 1 and press reset the screen will read housekeeping
when it finnish shoulr resum normal operation let me no how you get on
hope this help

I`ll give that a try later, thanks.
Are you saying that you know for sure the fan is not supposed to be on all the time and that putting in the new hard drive has effected it?
thanks :)

When I was on to Sky Plus, she said it should only come on intermittently...
Indeed, as i suspected. It was intermitent before.
Any one know why fitting a new hard drive makes the fan run all the time?
Cheers all! :)
You will have broken/disabled the temp guage.
Maybe its broken, maybe the cable is dislodged, maybe it was part of the old hard drive, but the new one doesnt have temp monitoring.
it souldnt be on all the time just as he say
maybe a temperature monitor isnt working.............................
