Sonel`s Macro Master Video Stabiliser. Is it any good?

Steve Lynch (Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 7th November 2001, 20:49

I recently had my pioneer dv-535 chipped to play all regions, unfortunately I was told the 535`s macrovision couldn`t be disabled by chipping. Then I saw an advert by Sonel.com. in the back of a satellite tv mag for the macro master video stabiliser. They claim that their device will stabilise any interference from macrovision protected dvd`s. It sounds great, but before I shell out £29.99 I`d like to know if anyone out there can tell me if they`re any good. I`d appreciate any advice, cheers, Ste Lynch.

They do what they say on the tin. I was skeptical myself (£29.99 is quite cheap for this kind of device), but they seem OK.

Be warned that you won`t be able to tape R1 stuff - the 535 doesn`t do PAL50 converted output from NTSC discs.

There is a firmware chip available for about £40 to make the pioneer 535 multiregion and disable macrovision.
