Do you need an amp to support THX sound the same as you need on DTS... If so can anyone suggest a good one at a reasonable price.
cheers dudes
Gus
THX is only really reserved for the `flagship` or top of the crop amps with the big players. As yet THX is extremely rare in software, but once Star Wars comes out on DVD I`m sure we`ll all raid our piggy banks.
The main contenders at present are :
Denon AVC-A10SE AV Amp + POA-T10 Power Amp (this second bit has the THX bits) - total £1800
(there are other more expensive Denon options too)
Onkyo TX-DS989 - £2500
Marantz SR-14EX- £3000
Pioneer VSX908RDS - £1000 (the cheapest around and well received at Home Entertainment magazine - unfortunately they don`t archive their reviews on their website any more http://www.home-entertainment.co.uk)
Sony STRV555ES - £1000 (not true THX but `virtual`)
Hope this helps, mate
Clayts :-)

THX is actually a certification procedure, designed to make sure all the speakers, amps and mixing equipment the sound engineers recorded the DVD audio on is of a minimum standard.
Its home counterpart is exactly the same, designed to reproduce as close as possible the audio as heard in the recording studio. You don`t need THX certified stuff to enjoy it or decode it, just if you do have it you can be reasonably sure that your hearing exactly what the original mix was supposed to sound like.
However it could also be regarded as overpriced. ;-)
I dont know if this helps ...what with this thread being old......but
A have seen A coupla onkyo THX amps below £600

erm.. dunno if I got the right amp here, but I think it is...
isn`t the Pioneer 908 not the amp that Richer Sounds was doing half price at £499?
