DP (Competent) posted this on Sunday, 12th November 2006, 14:43

Hi all,
I have just connected an NTL digibox to my DVD recorder and into the TV but the only signal the recorder or the TV will pick up is the cable channel none of the terestrial channels register, on the old analogue ntl box we had channels 1-5 plus the NTL channel.
Am I doing something wrong ?

thanks for any advice

do you have the regular tv aerial lead going through them also?

I have tv aerial goes into back of ntl box

ntl box scart 1 to tv
scart 2 to dvd recorder
rf aerial lead to dvd recorder

dvd recorder
scart to tv
rf aerial lead to tv

oh hang on, do you mean you could actually tune tv in to pick up different channels without the aerial lead?

That only seems to work on the old analogue boxes :(

I used to be able to tune VCR into BBC news 24 and a few other channels, sometimes quite handy.

If that`s what you mean sounds liek you need to hook up an aerial to your equipment.

My parents digibox only has the cable feed going into it (the aerial lead is not connected) and they have the cable channel on No 6 and also the standard terrestrial channels on 1-5 so they can watch other channels while recording from the cable channel. My TV and Recorder will only pick up the cable channel, no signal for anything else. which means if i am recording on BBC 1 I cant watch any other channel.

you have to have the ariel into the back of the ntl box,
you will then need to retune the tv for the other channels as they come down at a different frequency from the old box,

For your digibox to work like your old analogue, it needs to be equiped with an "Analogue Pass through". Some boxes have them built in (looks like yours does not), or you can ask your engineer to fit an external one during the installation FOC. Its a pity that few people know that they need to ask to get one.

You cannot buy the exteranal ones, and you will have great difficulty in getting NTL to give you one now (but you can try). Alternativly, when the box accidently breaks, get one when they replace it.

Thanks for the advice, the NTL man came on Wednesday and put a box on the back of the digibox. He said new customers don`t have them as standard, you have to ask.(obviously lots do as he had a supply in his van.
Also said that when analogue goes in 2008 I will loose the channels again.
