Wharefdale 750s stutters video & audio on region 1
Hi,
I`ve just purchased the new 750s and managed to get multi-region hack working (BTW the only one that would work on this particular machine was `STEP,PREVIOUS,NEXT`).
Having hacked it to multi region I sat down to enjoy Jurassic Park R1-DTS, which incidentally worked perfectly on my remote hacked Matsui DVD110, and the thing is completely unwatchable the video visibly stutters, in worst scenes you can actually see frame changes and audio stutters really badly.
It deteriorates to its worst in very loud fast action scenes.
I also tried `Green Mile(R1)`, `ID4(R1)`,`Uncle Buck(R1)` and Ultimate T2(R1)`, basically all these and my other R1 titles are unwatchable.
Tried R2 titles like `Payback` and `Armageddon` that have fast action audio and video sequences and they`re perfect.
So how come it decodes R2 no problem but crashes out on R1.
I thought I saw something about this somewhere but can`t find the article now I need it, does anyone know anything about this and any fixes.
If you`re thinking of buying this machine I`d advise checking into this first.
I`ve reverted back to the Matsui DVD110 and it plays all of my R1s perfectly - BTW JP-DTS sounds fantastic and the visuals are great - especially on amachine that handles them ;-)
Any help would be appreciated
Cheers

On dvddebate a friendly soul has already posted a possible solution which was the video output type on setup, which was as follows:
Try changing the output TV Setting on the DVD Player (offers PAL, NTSC, PAL60, Auto). Mine works fine on Auto or NTSC setting. It could be your DVD player is set to either PAL, PAL 60 or PAL 60R? When I set mine to this it stutters?
I have`nt tried this yet as I`ve reverted to my faithful Matsui, but I`ll post back whether this works once I`ve tried it.
RE: Wharefdale 750s stutters video & audio on region 1
The problem is all about the conversion from NTSC (R1-US) to PAL (R2- European), terms which refer to the resolution of the piccy on your screen and how quickly it refreshes.
PAL60 was introduced on European tellies, supposedly to cope with the rising number of VCR/DVDs able to offer conversion from NTSC. The differences are that NTSC refreshes the piccy at a rate of 60 frames per sec, whereas PAL50 as the name suggests goes for 50 frames per sec.
PAL60 is a way of compensating for players that don`t handle this conversion too well - we have, as you mention, already seen on the forum (see IT Troll`s observations) that the Wharfey ain`t too hot at converting it.
So really it`s down to how funky your telly is - only a very small handful have PAL60 unfortunately, although I expect it will increase in time.
The flicker you are seeing isn`t so much the player, although it isn`t really doing its job, but more to do with how capable your telly is. My bet is your telly can`t offer PAL60.
Don`t fret though - if you got your Wharfey from Tesco you should still be able to return it if you bought it less than 28 days ago...
Hope this helps and I`m only sorry the news ain`t better...

Yep, this is the case. Full details a few posts below:

Basically, unless you have an NTSC or PAL 60 capable TV you are stuffed. Mine is going back.

Thanks for the replies :-)
I`ve found that I had the video out on the 750s set to PAL not NTSC or AUTO - doh !!
My TV is an Hitachi C32WD2TN and according to Hitachi`s technical info on this set it supports PAL, PAL60, NTSC4, 43 and 3.58.
I`m not at home till tomorrow night so I`ll hook it all up again and let you know if setting NTSC or AUTO using this TV fixes the problem, and post the answer back here.
Thanks again for the help.
Cheers
Chris

You should be fine if your telly supports PAL60/NTSC (Fingers crossed)

ummmm :-)
Looks like Ironduke was right.
Switched the 750S to have video out switched to `AUTO` and all my R1`s play perfectly now.
Even complex ones such as R1 T2 ultimate edition in DTS plays video and sound perfectly.
Rather than Hitachi 505 rocks as the Duke always concludes with maybe it should be just.
HITACHI ROCKS !!!!!!!! ;-)
Cheers
