How Noisy should a Wharfdale be ?

Midge (Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 20th October 2001, 15:50

I have just brought a Wharfdale M5 from Tesco ( serial no. 128xxxx)
And as this is my first DVD I thought it would be silent, however when you insert a disc and it "spins up" the machine makes a humming noise which is quite loud, if you`re listening for it I suppose ! This carries on through a film but is less noticable when the sound is up.

Question is : is this humming and the louder spin when you change menus etc normal - any M5 owners want to fill me in.

Please help a nit picking DVD owner.

Cheers

I have owned both a 750 and a 750s but never an M5.
Both 750 models were quite noisey but not obtrusively so.
If you`re really concerned take it back and get another one, Tesco are very good about exchanges.
Good luck.

My 750s is packed away in a TV Unit behind a glass door so mine is silent.

I could still do with an original 750s remote control if anyone has one or knows how to get one please

Midge, that sounds like a perfectly fine M5 to me !

The players built by Sampo are notorious for their racket, once you`ve turned the volume up you won`t notice it My Encore (also a Sampo) sounds like a washing machine, but it still works fine and dandy.

As my dad once said, if you hear a rattle from your engine, turn the radio up - I love that saying, cos it sums me up ;-)
