HI guys, I`m looking to upgrade to a multi region PAL and NTSC player, don`t wasnt to spend too much. Was looking at the Scan SC200 and Cyberhome AD-L528 but kind of put off by previous advice warnings abouut Scan. What do you reckon. Good sound via a col Denon sound system is v v important. Any advice greatly received. Cheers, Jeff

See the post http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/forums/thread.asp?Forum=211&Thread=59313&Type=1 - same question, basically.
As far as I understand it, owners of the Scan player who HAVEN`T had to deal with Scan customer service have been pleased with the player itself, certainly in it`s latest incarnation.
How about the Wharfedale M5, if you can still get one?

I would recommend you buy an older & cheaper philips R2 player - eg DVD710 (about £150) & hack it via oneforall remote control to multi region, thats what I did & im delighted with it

Well im glad to hear you are pleased with your philips player lee but i had one , actually make that 2 within 2 months and had nothing but problems with it , i must have watched about 40 odd dvd`s on it and had problems with about a third of them. Freezing, pixellating, no sound sometimes etc. As for vcd`s , there a lot it wouldnt play. And the ones it did play often took several attempts . I found it to be a very fussy player.

It`s an "all in one" remote control, preprogrammed with the infra red codes for hundreds of different bits of kit, the idea being you can put your tv,video, hifi, etc remotes in a drawer and just use the oneforall to control everything. Some of the infra red codes it has can be used to remote hack some players e.g If I remember correctly some aiwa handset codes hacked samsung players. You should be able to get them from Argos or any electrical retailer, they come in various sizes ie number of remotes they can replace, but I`d think they`ve probably all got the same code library inside.
