Do NOT buy from Scan.co.uk.

nak99 (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Monday, 1st October 2001, 19:24

This is just a friendly warning. I had delivered last week an SC-2000 DVD player. A good spec machine at a reasonable price.
I had seen some chat on a couple of sites about the Customer Service or rather the lack of it but I had decided on the machine and so I ordered one.

Machine arrives without a remote control, manual or leads. I immediatley tried contacting Scan via phone, email and fax and well....... lets just put it this way, a week later I have had no contact back from them whatsoever, not even an acknowledgment saying they are dealing with the matter.

This is without doubt the worst Customer Service I have personally experienced of a company. They will take your money but if there is a problem forget it.

Give your cash to someone else who earns it.

Neil.

This may be better off in the Retailer Review Forum.

You`re sadly not the first person to have cause to grumble, tho`.

Nilesh ? I thought you guys had your new Customer Service department sorted out - aren`t there enough bums on seats at the moment ?

clayts,

You`re quite right, he is not the only person to have a grumble about this company`s appalling customer service. BTW, if nelly/nilesh etc is reading, where`s my refunded postage for very late arrival of my goods? On second thoughts, forget it, your company has promised me it several times without result. I really can`t be arsed to spend another couple of days on that national rate number trying to get thro`....

Anyway, my question is: why does DVDreviewer allow this company to advertise on the site??????????

I think DVD reviewver needs to clarify why they advertise Scan on the website....I for one donot reccoment this website to anyone who is thinking os buying a DVD as the scan ads have entrapted one of my firends with their appalling service.

Over to you DVD reviewer?!!

I disagree with that blanket statement

Not speaking as a representative of Reviewer, I must say I`ve used Scan loads of times over the years - mainly for PC hardware.

It`s commonly known that they have some of the best prices online, and they are typically *unbelievably* fast at getting stuff through - I`ve rarely not received what I wanted the next day. They also do one thing which make them popular with me that many other retailers don`t, and that`s deliver to an address other than the registered card address - useful when you`re at work during the day.

Now, how do you think they offer such a good service and keep the prices so low ?! They have GOT to be cutting back somewhere, and I`ll agree - Scan`s customer service has always left a lot to be desired. They`re difficult to get hold of, and usually take *ages* to sort out problems.

So it`s as simple as this - deal with Scan with your eyes open. You get the best prices and quickest delivery, and have to hope that nothing goes wrong. Most people know this, and yet they still keep going back to Scan - Why ? Because they`re cheap. The majority of people out there are prepared to take the gamble if it means saving a few quid.

I`ll let Rob or Mark respond about advertising, and I would suggest Nelly get in on the act too.

Good luck with the Mummy2, m8! If I am not mistaken that`s quite expensive! They didn`t even bother sending me the cheaper Power DVD after nelley promised it on here! Now then, I must start a new thread` TV programmes they must bring back` My vote`s for `Jackanory` and if they are looking for a sponsor, suggest they contact nelley. ;-)
