monkeyspank (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 21st August 2001, 23:47

i`ve noticed that when i list to movies in prologic mode i can hear garbled dialogue in my rear speakers. eg i was just watching dogma on sky and i can here it quite loudly. is this a problem with my amp (kenwood 5050d)or is it some thing to do with my speakers(quadral 1024`s ) or is it some thing else? help appreciated

You will almost always get some "leakage" using prologic unless the sound source is mono. Also, using processing modes other than normal prologic will tend to introduce more sound into the rear effects channels. Under most conditions the leakage is not very noticeable and shouldn`t affect your enjoyment of the movie.

If it is overly noticeable, then perhaps you`ve got the rear levels set too high - use the dolby test tone and check that all speakers are correctly balanced for your normal listening position.

Check that the rear effects sound OK with a 5.1 DD source - if they`re still distorted, then you may have problems with the amplifier or speakers.

Yeah, I have to turn off Pro Logic if ever I watch Friends, because the canned laughter shouts out of the rear speakers.
