The higher the DB, the better the reception. I have a fine freeview reception in Bournemouth but it can go blocky at times so i bought an an aerial booster and the blocking hasn`t happened once since.

Freeview marked ones are recommended

You need an outside aerial by the sound of it.

If you get no signal, then an amplified aerial is just going to amplify nothing.

You at least need to get a signal before you think about amplifiers.

You cannot amplify nothing.

Signal booster should have helped with signal even if only weak. Two possibilities I can think of.

1. The reason you are in "weak area" is the fact you have a poor aerial (either standard or direction). With a signal booster, you shoudl still be able to get the BBC digital channels though. They tend to have stonger signal.

2. It may sound completley stupid but how do you know the freeview box just simply isn`t defective.

It would help if the original poster told us where he/she lives, then we could look up the nearest digital transmitter, and get the channel numbers to try getting a signal on.

Here are the channels to search for the BBC Multiplex

Sutton Coldfield 41
The Wrekin (E) 39
The Wrekin (W) 21

You need to put your Freeview receiver into manual search mode and select the channel numbers given above. They are listed in order of strength you should receive signal.

Move your aerial to get best signal.

If you do not get a signal you will need outdoor aerial.

Also try Freeview receiver in a different room that will be facing the transmitter. So try in nearest side of house to Sutton Coldfield for example.

The BBC Multiplex is on :-

Hannington 50
Crystal Palace 25

It seems you are in a poor reception area, as aerial recommendations are for Amplified extra hi-gain aerial.
