Yelo 800 - Playback Hiccups

IT Troll (Competent) posted this on Saturday, 7th October 2000, 16:07

I`ve been having a bit more of a play with my Yelo and things aren`t looking quite so peachy. On quite a few occasions now, playback has paused for about a second and then continued. If you then wizz back and play that section again the problem doesn`t re-occur. So it does not seem to be due to dirt, or any specific feature or disc.

Worst than that, I can not get the player to load my Blade (R2) at all, all I get is `DISC ERROR`. I suppose this could be a dodgy disc, but my PC will play it fine. Are there any other Yelo owners who have had success with Blade?

On to the dreaded persistent subtitles. A few people have suggested selecting an obscure subtitle language like Greek. Well Greek is not an available option, but I have tried Japanese and Spanish. Guess what? I still get English subtitles - go figure.

Finally, the player does seem to run rather hot. Even after just 30 minutes of playback, discs come out of the machine feeling rather warm.

Is it time to talk to Yelo?

Regarding subtitles, sounds like the same problem as the sc-2000.
There shouild be a firmware upgrade by chips or disc.Rather then setting
the region to "bypass" try setting it to region 2 and see what happens.
The player shouild not get hot in 30 minutes.Sounds like a power supply
problem. We had some sc-2000s that used to get hot.Change the power
supply and the problem is gone. All the above problems are down to quality control again."disc error" sounds like a dodgy mpeg card.

Still no joy with the subtitles. I tried setting the region back to 2 as you suggested, but they still insist on popping up.

Looking on the bright side of things the overheating `feature` makes for a nice foot warmer.

I think Nilseh was suggesting switching to Region 2 in order to try and solve your Blad problem.

My yelo too got hot so hot I had to cool it down with a portable fan. Going back on Thursday which gives me just over a day to record a few disks! 008 oley kcuf

Guess what. After about the 10th attempt the Yelo actually loaded my Blade disc. Wasn`t worth the hassle though, as it played back using
Yelo`s patented Block-O-Vision decoder.

My player is going back on Thursday too! I guess they are sending a skip out to collect `em all up.

I must say I was very impressed with InterDVD`s attitude to the whole affair. They quite happily agreed to giving a full refund and arranged courier collection too. I would certainly buy from InterDVD again - although I would choose a bit more carefully next time.
