Wharfey M5 problems...again!

Hodge (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 2nd August 2001, 13:16

I got my M5 replaced last month because of the "skipping" fault...and guess what...I got another duff one! Same problem - movies skip and pause. Also, to my dismay, last night, I put a DVD on to watch, and it wouldn`t load the disk, so I ejected it, and the drive came out at a disturbing angle...and wouldn`t close again. I had to turn off the player, and push the tray back in. The disk loaded though!

I`m pretty gutted about it, because appart from this, the M5 is a good player (at least it would be if I got a functional one!).

Is anyone else still getting problems? Just for the record, I got the first M5 in Sheffield, and the replacement from Wrexham. Looks like the dodgy batch(es) is/are spreading.

Hodge.

Take it back to Tesco and get your money back.

There is a newer batch available from a company called GC Computing, who have somehow got hold of the newer build (3/2001 manufacturing date) M5s. Early indications are that these later players are running like a dream.

The company sell the players at computer fairs around the UK and the best bit - the price is only £155.

Check out http://www.area450.co.uk/news.htm where I have reported on the M5 for most of the week !

Definately take it back to Tesco & get your cash. Iwouldn`t touch Wharfey`s with a barge pole having had to take my 750s back & then the M5 replacement !

I got my M5 a couple of weeks ago and it plays like a dream so far !. However I checked the manufacture date on the back and it shows 2000/12 indicating one of the early batch ?. Can anyone tell me what I can do to confirm whether there are any "hidden" snags with my player ?. At the moment I`m totally satisfied with its performance. Is there a potential defect or have I just been jammy ?. Thanks.

You`re one of the lucky ones, but there`s still time....

Could you do me a favour and report in the number for me at Area 450, so that I can build the database of good uns and bad uns - http://www.area450.co.uk/good_and_bad_m5s.htm

Cheers
