RE: Wharfey M5 problems...again!
I got my M5 a couple of weeks ago and it plays like a dream so far !. However I checked the manufacture date on the back and it shows 2000/12 indicating one of the early batch ?. Can anyone tell me what I can do to confirm whether there are any "hidden" snags with my player ?. At the moment I`m totally satisfied with its performance. Is there a potential defect or have I just been jammy ?. Thanks.

RE: need a widescreen tv
The Bush TV from Tescos seems to be extremely popular there must have been 20-25 units stacked up in the store down the road from where I work at the beginning of the week. Every last one has been sold as of today!!. Got a M8 Wharfedale from Tesco and for the price it's a cracking entry TV. Unfortunately the 36 inch WEGA that I really wanted will have to wait as I spent the money on a new car !.

RE: Is there a list of DVD players that are Multi-Region AND RCE compatible?
Try this website for Hack info

I don`t know about RCE for all the players apart from the new Wharfedale M5. Just bought one yesterday in Tescos (usual price £180 at the moment £153). Very happy with it got loads of functions for the price and definately plays RCE discs as I watched Charlies Angels R1 RCE on it when I got it home. Hope this is of some help.

RE: Explanation of DVD + Widescreen
Westy,
I believe you are right ! I`m very pleased with the M8 and its brilliant now its paired up to the M5. The TV I bought was subject to a check by engineers but all the bloke did was come round my house take the back off the TV check serial number of part inside an announce that it wasn`t part of the faulty batch. From being initially peeved I was extremely happy when Tesco wrote to apologise for the inconvienience and as way of compensation gave me a free extended warranty on the set !!. You can`t fault their customer service from what I have seen.

RE: Explanation of DVD + Widescreen
Just to clear up a point I bought a Wharfedale M8 widescreen TV a couple of months ago from Tescos and it has 4 different viewing modes and it does support anamorphic enhancement.
I`m not on a sales pitch for them but I actually bought their new M5 DVD player today. Tesco are having a vat free promo and the player was knocked down from £180 to £153 !!!. For the price the spec is hard to beat. Dolby dig/DTS plays all CD formats e.g VCV mp3 etc . Plus really easy to region hack and played RCE Charlie Angels no probs !.

RE: £200 to spend - what DVD player can you recommend?
I`ve just bought a Wharfedale M5 today and am extremely pleased. Tesco are having a vat free promo so the player is £153 !!! instead of £180. Got Dolby dig/ DTS p*** easy to region hack + played RCE Charlies Angel no sweat !. For an entry level player I think its pretty hard to beat what with the spec + promo price. They are a bit like the proverbial rocking horse do do to get hold of, but the Tescos in Goodmayes where I picked mine up had twenty of them if your anywhere near there !. Hope this helps

p.s if you get one and ever have any probs with the Pssw function. Once you reset it the factory default is 0000. Had to tell the Helpline that one myself !!!!!.
