As a newbie to this thing, and a desire not to waste money if I can help it here I am.
I recently purchased a- Tosh 210E, multiregion. I`m now looking at surround speaker systems.
My thinking on this is that most packages from 300 quid up are probably far better than that experienced from a 5 speaker ProLogic equipped TV.
Having wandered into a local specialist, and being directed to some receivers/decoders and speakers and an approx bundle price of 850 quid or so, I refuse to belive its necessary to spend that much.
I`ve seen mention of the Sony HTK stuff, and the Yahama VS-10 dotted around but never anythign suubstantial as a review! (or maybe I`m not looking in the right places!).
Sorry for the wittering and long post...thoughts anyone??
hi spireite,i`m fairly new to this mullarky as well, but let me tell you these guys on here will give you ROCK SOLID advice and help.clayts and westy r the 2 i owe the most 2 but lots of other guys have contributed too.
home cinema is governed by 2 rules as far as i can make out, your ears and budget.up 2 now my system is about £1500,list price, and i hav`nt got a new telly yet, then i will start the dreaded upgrade.
you don`t have to spend a gazillion quid, yuo`ve bought an excellant player,i would recomend that if your on a budget go for the yammy stuff,i`ve heard it and its super.dont make the mistake i made and go in to a reputable hi fi dealer and listen to the stuff theyve got in the dem room,it just plants the evil seed of upgrade hell in your head....lol
dont get caught up in pounds make sounds either,i nearly did.its not about masses of volume but clarity and range of sound makes viewing much more pleasurable.best of luck mate,i`m going now cos i`m rambling and i`llleave it to the more experianced guys......shnozzer
RE: Home theatre sound.
The Denon AVR1601 and Mision M71 front and rear M7 center. £640 in all . This should get you started.
shnozzer is correct when he says "its not about masses of volume but clarity and range of sound makes viewing much more pleasurable." Unfotunatley it is the better amps that do this well. Any amp can boom and crash.
Take your time, don`t be rushed and enjoy your puchase.
All the best,
Andrew.
G`day mate!
No doubt you`ve thought by now "what the hell do i buy?".The home cinema market is very over saturated and fiercly competitive at the moment, with every manufacturer bringing out product after product with no real discernable difference to its nearest competitor.
If this is your first system then i have to suggest(and people are going to start thinking im sponsored by Yamaha by now!),that you take a look at the Yammy VS10 system. For a cost effective entry into the world of home cinema i cant see any harm in you buying this great little system.I was never one to be sold on these sort of systems, but when my mate brought one home the other week i have to admit it had me eating humble pie within the first few minutes of the opening to Superman on dvd.
I was staggered! The power may look meagre on paper, but the noise it makes can bring a smile to the face! Has everything you need to get started, and by getting this you wont feel robbed when you see that the reciever you would have bought is being replaced soon!
I agree with mr bruce on his reccomended system, but if you want something thats easy to set up,not complicated, and won`t blow a hole in your wallet, then the Yammy is the one.And if you dont like it,you can make me eat the 40miles or so of speaker cable you get with it!
You can always go the seperates route when you climb up the av ladder. As always, your ears and your wallet are the real decision makers,so trust them to make your purchase worthwile.
Hope we`ve helped you out here.
Enjoy
Westy
I am also looking for a home theatre system and am interested in the VS-10 but can anyone tell me the best place to get it from as I have seen some places possibly (This may be my interpretation) selling it with a sub and 2 speakers.
See vs -10 info a few threads up or down from here from earlier in the year
Mickey1.
Well, suffice to say that my parents have a DPL telly, which always sounds good to me - some Mitsubishi thing - so I have to have surround of some description on a budget preferably as I canniot justify spending a major fortune at the moment.
Here in South Africa, Yamaha doesn`t offer the VS-10. I bought a RXV420 amp and NSP220 speaker set instead. I`m not an expert but this system rocks and the Cinema-DSP modes are excellent. I was also interested in Sony`s HTK stuff but it can`t compare to the Yamaha stuff in my opinion. Spend the extra money, it is worth it.
I started down this route by looking at the Videologic DTS - which does get excellent reviews and costs around £300.
Then, I was seduced by the dark side and have just forked out around £800 for a Yamaha RX-V620RDS receiver and an all-Mission loudspeaker set up (M74 front, M7C1 centre and M7DS bipolar rears). No sub - yet! Not that it *really* needs one with those M74s up front!
The sound is simply awesome and I have to say stretch your budget until it hurts!
Incidentally, I got all my stuff from hifijunkies.co.uk, who managed to beat everyone on price, speed of delivery, cost of delivery (free) and friendly service. I have no connection with them, other than as an extremely satisfied customer.
i bought a yamaha rxv396 with 5 speakers and sub for £350.its got loads of inputs mine connected to
dvd
video
sky
platstation2
cd player
its only dolby digital not dts but do you really need both?

hope this helps you out.
