Screenburn - How long does it take?

dsmso (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Monday, 18th July 2005, 08:11

I recently bought a Rear projection TV and I`m really happy with it. However, I`m always worried about screenburn.

How long is too long for a RPTV? I usually watch channels that have logos on them (but I rarely watch the same channel for hours on end). I never use playstation or gamecube on RPTV either.

Thanks

Fascinating question.

If you were in the USA you could probably sue for an etched in image of a channel logo on your telly screen.

Might be worth looking to see if anyone has managed to do it (and the yanks sue if the cellophane is broken on the box it comes in) and if not then I would assume it`s quite a long time!

ps my friend Dean up the road is a sad ol bu`gr and only watches discovery men n motors and the one which does airline crashes/reconstructions. He`s has his RPTV for at least 3 yrs and no logo on there... yet

It isn`t so much the logos that cause screen burn, its viewing in 4:3 format (if your screen is 16:9) as (on my parent`s Sony) grey bars are left at each side of the screen, not black.
