Philips Dvdr70

David-G (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 18th April 2005, 00:02

Hi all.
I`m thinking of buying a Philips dvdr70 & have been digging around for info on it.
It seems that people have been having problems with the earlier models, but I was wondering if Philips have sorted these out & is this recorder ok now.
Is the Philips dvdr70 a good buy or not? they are going for about £150 now which seems a good price for a brand name like Philips.
Thanks for any info/advice. Dave G.

Sadly no.

I had one and it was great, did everything I wanted, but before the year was out it developed a minor problem that Philips said was too expense to fix. If the mods will permit me, have a look on richersounds web site. That`s where I got mine and was given the choice of my money back, or one of two more expense recorders in its place. In the end I went for a panasonic, they seem the most reliable with the least number of grumbles about them.

The DVD Recorder wars may now commence! ...again.

I gonna kill that firefox spellchecker, and enjoy doing it.

Well I`ve had my DVDR75 for quite a while now, about two years I think, and it`s been absolutely fine. It gets a lot of regular use. I reckon £150 is a decent price for the 70 assuming it`s a similar machine. I feel it`s a better machine than the DVDR610 which often sells for about £200 (although I got mine for £100 at Sainsburys).

One kicking around on ebay (DVDR 75) for a couple more hours. I have one, it`s a great machine.

The DVDR70 is the DVDR75 without the DV input.

Just to add to that, I loved mine, it was a great DVDR, but Philips do seem to have problems with their dvd recorders in general, If you do get it, just make sure it is from somewhere you can take it back to if it does go wrong. When mine went wrong they (Philips )did not offer a replacement when they decided they were not going to repair it, just presumable gave my supplier a credit note and washed their hands of it. No attempt by them at all to keep me as a customer.
