RGB Scart..... what the hell is that ?
Hi all.
I was reading about scart cables and that a RGB capable one gives a better picture..
Is this true ? Adnd how do you know if u have one or even where to get one for under a Gazillion quid...? ?

I think that most will be capable of delivering the RGB signal...it`s just whether the equipment can output RGB and your TV can receive RGB.
For example, my Wega has 3 scart sockets - only 1 is RGB scart enabled....having said that, I couldn`t really tell the difference between the others!

For the purposes of being squirted through a cable, TV pictures can be separated into 3 component colours Red, Green and Blue, which usually will get you a better picture with clearer colour definition than a standard single video connection.
As a general rule, if a RGB option is available to you, it`s better to use it.
All scart leads are capable of carrying RGB signals - the issue is whether your TV and DVD/Playstation/Whatever are RGB capable. Your instruction manuals should tell you.
You can also get scart leads that are RGB ONLY, i.e. they just carry the 3 RGB signals and nothing else, so they don`t carry any audio signal.
These can, arguably, produce a better picture as there won`t be any interference from the sound channels, and the wiring used for the video signal is possibly a bit better spec. These are all well and good but you need make alternative arrangements for your sound signal. If, like me, your DVD player is connected to a surround processor via a digital coaxial lead, then you don`t really need the scart cable to carry sound, so an RGB only one is, arguably, better.
Hope this makes sense - someone else might be able to explain it better!

Example of an RGB Only scart lead here. Cheaper ones are available - Amazon certainly does one.

I was of the understanding that some scart leads only carried composite & audio signals. Could be wrong though

Partially wired scarts which do that are available, bit I didn`t think they were particularly widespread any more - I stand to be corrected, though.
Unless you want a RGB only scart lead, then make sure you go for a fully wired scart.
