Lidl DVD Recorder - 16th Dec

Pete R (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 8th December 2004, 15:04

Anyone seen the fliers for Lidl DVD recorder starting 16th Dec?
Haven`t got the full info to hand and it`s not on their web site yet.

Targa DR5100X - £199

DVD -RW/+RW
Scart in/out
RCA in/out
SVHS in/out
Component out (progressive scan)
Firewire in

Seems to have every type of i/o possible. Looks incredibly slim.

Anybody know anything about it
It`s not as cheap as the Liteon`s or some of the other budget recorders - in fact it is now in the same price bracket as Panny E55.

Try visiting http://www.targa.co.uk and go to Products then Home Cinema and you will get a bit more information.
Other than recording to DVD+/- it can playback Divx and Xvid plus progressive scan so it may be a good buy .
I myself bought the Lite-On LVW 5005B and TBH am extremely happy with it.
The Lidl web page does not show the 5100X yet but I would think that it would come with a three year warranty as is the norm with Lidl and as such this looks like quite a good buy if that is indeed the case.

So apart from Divx, it`s a gloryfied VCR at the same price as the king of DVD-Recorders. No contest.

No, it`s a DVD recorder, not a VCR, and one that isn`t hamstrung by only recording a highly incompatible re-writable disc system

As DVD-RAM is the biggest selling system in the world it has to be the most compatable. This Lidl recorder doesn`t even offer any form of editing. (that I can see) making it no better than my Mico.

Oh, FFS, change the record, or give us some CURRENT statistics to back up that most ludicrous of claims, not something from when there were about 4 DVD recorders on the market.

I gave you the proof in another thread. You have yet to prove otherwise. I don`t believe you will as in Japan & the US, probably the 2 biggest markets in the world they WON`T buy cheap chinese/ Korean crap & The Panasonic is the biggest selling there. You didn`t answer to my question, so I will repeat. `Does the Lidl DVD recorder have editing facilities?` I mean as in the Panasonic, Pioneer, Toshiba.

Bowfer, I didn`t mention RGB because I didn`t have the detail, I was listing only what the Lidl flier mentioned. Looking at the spec above, it mentions RGB out, but not specifically in.

Paull, maybe some people only want a glorified video recorder replacement - since the video is effectively dead (Thanks Dixons).

I haven`t got a recorder yet, which is why I keep an eye on this Forum and hoped that if others knew anything about this unit, we could figure out if the £199 price tag was justified compared to a £120 Liteon.

I have already decided that I don`t want a RAM recorder just because of comptibility issues with kit I already have. Please keep the DVD format war out of my thread, as it is not relevant. I only mentioned the Panny as a it is regarded as a good bit of kit and is typically the same price as the Targa..

I`m losing patience with the rantings that go on on this forum and will look elsewhere for help/advice. Shame really, as it helped greatly in the purchase of my Medion portable DVD player.

TBH I would stick with this site.
Yes sometimes the conversation can drift off topic and at a bit of a tangent but in general this is an exceptionally well disciplined and courteous site.
There are differences of opinion but in general the opposing sides of any particular debate engage in good natured banter that rarely reaches the stage where the Mods have to intervene.
Stick with us, as in all honesty this is the finest forum I have used and puts many hundreds of other forums in the gutter.
The members of this board are what makes the site superior in almost every way so as I said, "Stick with us Kid" :)
