Try the cheapo Alba`s from Argos. My sis & Father-in-Law both have one and they`re multi-region out of the box

I thought you meant you were wanting to swap yor daughter for a DVD player for one awful minute there!!

You`ve got a lot of choice really, but first, consider a couple of things.

What are you attaching it to? If it`s a portable in her bedroom, has the TV got a scart socket, or, at worst a set of phono composite input sockets? It should have but some older portables only have the co-ax (aerial lead) input. If that`s the case, you won`t be able to play DVD`s on it.

Still on the portable, as you said you want to make it multi region, then it`s worth checking to see if it will be compatable with the NTSC format. Take a look at the thread on here about DVD`s playing back in black and white..you could finish up with the same situation.

One thing that might be worth considering if you have doubts over those two issues is adding 35 quid to your budget and get down to Aldi this Thursday-they are doing neat looking TV/DVD all in one units

http://uk.aldi.com/special_buys/product_371.html

I`m not 100% sure it would be region free and NTSC compatible, but I`d be surprised if it wasn`t.

If you want to go down the seperate player route..all the high streets electrical stores will have a good selection of sub £50 machines to choose from so will the likes of Tesco and Asda, and if you`ve got a Maplins nearby, they have a few in your price range. If you want to buy on line, take a look at amazon.co.uk..a mate got a cracker off there for 35 notes.

Steve

Apparently Asda are selling off the Paciffic DVD1001 for £24.97. It has no LED as far as I can see but folk say it plays most things and you can get a region hack from this very site. There are some reviews here:

Why am I suggesting you buy something from the devil I don`t know....well I do, it`s cheap!
