thanks patr26 for your help, have looked at this site and they gave it quite a good report
seems to do everything i want.help greatly appreciated.
I`ve heard good things about it too. A friend of mine bought one last week from DVDworld (www.dvdworld.co.uk) and he loves it to death. I think he said they were about the cheapest of the reputable companies who had it.
It`s also available from SVP at £199.99 ;)

Avoid this substandard recorder.Unlike other recorders that simply omit an RGB input, this one misses an s-video input aswell.Incredibly,no matter what output your digibox or Freeview can offer, the best this thing will accept is composite, making it suitable for analogue recording only.

i am not too worried about no s-video input on a machine as i will be using it to mainly transfer stuff from my digital camcorder to dvd, therefore the digital camcorder connector
under the front panel will suit me nicely. i dont know if all the other standalone dvd recorders have a firewire input but i am guessing that some dont.for the money it would seem to be a good machine considering that it will handle either + or - discs.
