LG3200E - novice needs help, please.
I am hoping to buy my first DVD player this weekend and it appears that this model, the LG3200E, is probably the best starting point for a machine under £200. Can someone tell me:
1) Is it easily hackable?
2) Is it the best high street buy under £200
3) What the hell is macrovision?????
Hope you can help.

It is easy try this:
Turn on player with no disc in the tray
Wait till it says "no disc"
Hold puase for about 5 seconds
Key in 314159
Code 00 should come up on the player
Enter 00 for multiregion
Press pause
Then power off
Wait a few mins
Turn on and try a r1 disc
This worked for me first time and on my parents player.
It is by far the best player for around £150 in my opinion. Ive got a 32" hitachi tv and the picture is superb and the sound is ,ok , DTS but the LG3200e kicks ass. I couldnt fault it anyway, and i wont be upgrading until i can afford an ARCAM.
As for Macrovision this stops you from recording onto video from your DVD, which is pointless really as the picture wont be anywhere nera as good
hope that helps

1) with the latest firmware it is hackable, if you buy one now it should have version 1.4 which is hackable. www.choosefirst.co.uk, will tell you how to hack the player. Commision again Jimbo !
2) I wouldn`t say its the best but it depends on what you wnat your player to do. If it`s just to play DVD`s then it is good. If you want Mp3 and VCD as well then it ain`t. Look at the LG3000 for comparison.
3) Macrovision stops you from recording off your player onto Video (I maybe stood corrected)
Hope this helps !
BTW I have an LG 3200E and have had no problems with it so far and LG customer service is top banana !

You say `Think about the LG3000E`, I can get this about £30 cheaper. Is it worth saving this for discs as as I really want to do is watch DVDs - not really interested in much else, I just want as good a picture and sound as possible and to include R1.
So, back to my original point, LG3200E or LG3000E with software. Over to you. Thanks.

Im not to sure but the 3000e doesnt have as good a picture as the 3200e. I cant remember where i read this. If youve got a great TV then go for the 3200e, however if youa arnt using a big widescreen Tv then you may not notice the differenece. Id go fr the 3200e just incase you decide to upgrade equipment. The only thing i dont like about the 3200e is that it doesnt play MP3 cds, but if you havnt got a CDR on a pc then its not a factor to worry about as thats the only way i can think to make them.
RE: LG3200E - novice needs help, please.
LG 3000E if you want to play Mp3, not sure if the quality of the picture is an issue.
LG 3200E if you want to play just DVD`s with good quality picture.
Try and get a demo in a shop of the two machines and make up your own mind then.
Hope this helps !
RE: LG3200E - novice needs help, please.
thats the best advice get them to compare them on the same TV. Thats whgat i did with the LG3200e and Bush player and the LG was noticeabley better
RE: LG3200E - novice needs help, please.
Reports on the internal components of the 3000E suggest that it is almost identical to the 3350E and certainly uses the same highly acclaimed C-Cube Ziva-4 decoder.
Although unconfirmed, I suspect that the 3200E uses the earlier version of this decoder, the Ziva-3.
I have not personally compared the performance of the 3200 and the 3350. But most reviews (if they can be believed) rate the 3200 at 75% and the 3350 at 95%.
Therefore it would seem that is you want the performance of an LG DVD-3350E at a bargain price then go for the LG DVD-3000E.
