Page 1 of DVD Recorder - Which one??
Hardware Forum
Dont know if this has been answered in a while but i know i would like to hear from the experts that scour the market.
I am looking now as i think they are at a resonable price for most people now, but i would like to know which is the best one at the moment for price and feature, also being multi region is important. Also i want one that will work well with Sky+.
Please post your responses for everyone who wants to get a recorder and not just me !!
Cheers :)

Recorder reviews
Look for a recorder with a RGB input scart so you can connect your Sky box.
Several makes -JVC ,Pioneer,LG -do not have this.
Philips and Panasonic do.
If you`re looking to use recorded discs in other players bear in mind RAM discs used in Panasonics are compatible in few players.

RE: DVD Recorder - Which one??
i personaly would highly recomend the panasonic players for quality and ease of use, compatability is second to NONE when using dvd-r and at around 35p-45p each disc they are much cheaper than vhs.

As Sky+ comes with an s-video output, the lack of RGB is only a minor niggle. If you are serious about collecting dvd recordings, then a machine with Hard Disc Drive is essential for accurate editing.Editing `on the fly` with a dvd only machine is untidy at best, and risks wasting discs. If editing is not important then any brand will do.RAM is seriously impaired for playback on other players, but Pioneer offer -RW.With editing sophistication and Timeslip(and incompatibility) like RAM,Pioneer`s trump card is to give you the choice to make your -RW discs playable in other players(but with no editing)then return to the player to rerecord. The editing powers of -RW(VR) and RAM make DVD+RW look archaic, and you need only tread that path if a budget price is paramount to your purchase.
Having gone through a Philips DVD+ machine,a Panasonic RAM/-R/HDD machine, and now using a Pioneer -RW/-R/HDD,I can truthfully say the Pioneer offers more tricks than the others.Panasonic are excellent also, but I found RAM`s compatibility problems a pain. But if that does not bother you, then Panny`s RGB advantage may win you over

Hi Phelings,
Thanks for your advice, what model pioneer are you reffering to??, it does sound interesting, but do you think i should wait a little, are there some good units coming soon, im going to have a look at the links above but i really dont want to rush into anything, thats what i did with a Kiss DP-508 and i was not happy.
Also when you refer to editing are you talking menu creation or just simple indexing.

I refer to the Pioneer 5100.Any model with HDD is capable of editing. If you collect tv shows, you transfer them all from your Sky+,then you can edit all the crap(ads etc) out with frame accurate precision, and transfer to dvd very nicely, and an entire disc can be done in 15 mins from HDD-DVD.It is possible to do this with a dvd recorder and some PC software, but you would get better quality, and probably find it a lot easier to do with an all in one unit.I have been trying to use Nero but find doing it all in the recorder is easier, and much quicker.Fancy menus remain the preserve of PC software. The longer you wait, the better the machines coming out will be,but why wait when great stuff is so cheap now
